Hi everyone. We've getting early intervention services for about a month and have seen slow but steady progress. We think he's understanding more of what is said and is picking up more sign. He gives us words every now and again but it's looking like he'll sign before talking. He's just about ready to walk. He's eating everything in sight especially what's on our plates instead of his high chair tray. He loves books visits to the park and anything cute and cuddly that will let him pet it. His speach therapist said he's got the temperment to one day just start talking. We've got appointments coming up that will give us more details about his hearing. Then to a developmental ped to find out if there's something else going on. We've cut the tv time down as much as we can. This will be much easier to do when we move. Is there anything I'm missing? Tiffany

Sounds as though all is progressing in a positive manner

Thanks for sharing this good news

..yes, I would think that what is on your plate
would be more so tempting than what is
on the high chair tray... *smiles

my baby boy does that all the time and he's only 10 months. He loves eating food that we are eating way better than his own food, lol. So I've resorted to giving it to him if it is soft and small enough for him.

I do this with Apryl now. she hates jarred baby food. not enough texture for her I guess. she just likes to grab the spoon and fling the food. haha. she'll sometimes eat normal food in small sizes though. She's still breast feeding though like a champ.

Hi everyone. We've been to see the audiologist and ent doc. The conclusion is that he still has fluid in his ears that is affecting his hearing and speech development. We'll be going in for tube implants august eighth. Once the tubes are in we should see rapid progress. Apparently this is a very common thing to have done. He just turned 2 and knows something is diffrent. He's getting to that frustrated at not being able to talk poit. This will be a big hurdle cleared if that is the only issue. We're still going to the developmental med after the surgery. Prayers are very much appreciated. Tiffany

Hi everyone. Solomon has had his ear tube surgery and did splendidly throughout the day. His hearing is completely normal. 24 hours after surgery he took his first steps. He has begun originating more sounds and made more attempts at real words. Book go and up being his most consistent. His teachers are seeinh steady progress and he becomes a little brighter and happier everyday. He hasn't begun walking on his own but is standing more frequently and independently. We see the developmental pediatrition monday exactly 2 weeks out from surgery. We will soon have the last piece of the puzzle. Thank you for your prayers. Tiffany

Hi all. Ah yes we now have an almost caught up toddler. He's walking eating coloring and learning everyday. He's just a slow kid who wants to get it right. He's doing everything but talking and using the potty. After christmas we'll start shakedown on the apartment so we'll have dedicated space for him. This will mean toddler bed and potty chair for him. We've been loaned a dinavox to help him connect the dots with language. He seems to like it better than signing and it helps him try more. He's getting more and more frustrated. Hard for us but good for him. We're hoping this means he'll progress with speach. He'll talk when he talks just like he's done everything else. Tiffany.

Hi everyone. Solomon is doing as well as he can. We got a different speech teacher who is much more appropriate for Solomon's needs. We've been to the developmental pediatrition twice. She's recommending we see a genetics specialist to find out if he has a chromosome deletion or abnormality. His tubes are just fine but we'll be going in for another hearing test just to be sure. We're preparing him for transitien in to a summer program and from there to a full program. He turns 3 at the end of july. He's signing more but not using words much. He's a sneaky and smart little bugger though. His teachers all say signing will be a bridge to verbal language. We see the genetics specialist in april His former teacher wasn't directing him or using much sign with him. His special education teacher is setting up a playgroup so he can have some off the books playtime before going to school. And to top it all off he's discovered the joys of climbing. I found him on top of the dishwasher having climbed out of his high chair, very quietly. Gotta go he's insisting on climbing in my lap, exit braillenote..

Hi everyone, Solomon has been at program since the beginning of september. He gets so excited when he sees the bus coming in the morning. Monday he starts full day program. We've increased his services so he gets as much help as possible. He's doing well more imitation and listening better. His teachers adore him and so does the program director. Whispering Pines has helped children who no one thought would walk or talk. We're lookin forward to what he'll do in the next few months.

Hi all, Solomon is talking! Not a lot of full sentences but he tries. You can understand most of what he says. He just turned four. He's back in program for fall and had summer school as well. He loves school. He should be caught up by and large within the next year or so. He hasn't figured out the potty, he's more interested in the computer. We subscribed to ABC Mouse for him. He's learning to spell words, tell time, and knows his days of the week. He takes short cuts to communicate but if you push bim a little he puts it all together. He is kinda stuck on the alphabet though. Does anyone else have experience with a kiddo geting stuck repeating things they know litterally backwards and forward? He's a smart kid with an unnamed langrage disorder, that on top of being deaf for a year. We'll see how it turns out. I'm ok if he's a little bit special. Special people can help in their own way.
